Cycas panzihuaensis
Striking, blue-green, Cycas species relatively new to cultivation outside central China.  The leaves are 2 1/2 to 3 feet (0.75-1 meter) long with numerous narrow, pointed leaflets arranged in one plane on the leaf stem.  More cold hardy than most other Cycas species.

Cycas revoluta - Sago Palm
Shiny, dark green cycad most commonly seen in cultivation.  Many narrow, pointed leaflets arranged in a v-shaped manner on the leaf stem.  Leaves reach 2 1/2 to 3 feet (0.75-1 meter) long.  Side shoots develop on older plants.  Very desirable and hardy landscape plant providing a tropical effect.  Sago palms can live to great ages and some specimens are centuries old in southern Japan, their native habitat.

Cycas taitungensis - Emperor Sago Palm
Shiny, dark green leaves are 3 to 4 feet (1-1.2 meters) long with leaflets arranged in a single plane along the leaf stem.  Side shoots develop on older plants.  Very attractive cycad that is similiar in appearance to Cycas revoluta, but larger and faster growing.

Dioon edule 'Jacala'
Fern-like leaves are comprised of many pale green, stiff leaflets that are arranged in one plane and pointed at the tips.  Leaves are stiff, smooth, and pliable like plastic and grow to approximately 4 feet (1.2 meters) long.  Leaflets are 3 to 4 inches (7.6-10 cm) long and 1/4 to 1/2 inch (0.6-1.25 cm) wide.  New emerging leaves are soft and feathery.  This cycad is especially attractive for xeriscapes.  Prefers well-drained soils.  Tolerates heat and drought.  Slow growing and very low maintenance plant.  Zone 9a

Dioon edule 'Rio Verde'

Dioon mejiae
Feather-palm type, pale green, shiny leaves are comprised of many, plastic-like leaflets arranged in one plane.  Highly symmetrical plant of exquisite beauty.  Similiar in size to the more common Dioon spinulosum listed below.  Grow in partial or afternoon shade in well-drained soil.

Dioon spinulosum
Feather-palm type leaves are comprised of many pale green, plastic-like leaflets arranged in one plane.  Highly symmetrical plant of exquisite beauty.  Leaflets are much larger than those of Dioon edule and have several short spines along the margins.  Spines are insignificant prickles and not a hazard in the landscape.  Leaves can grow to 5 feet (1.5 meters) in length and leaflets, 6 to 8 inches (15-20 cm).  Grown best in partial or afternoon shade when young or when grown in hot, dry climates.  Prefers well-drained soils.  Drought resistant.

Zamia floridana - Florida Coontie
Small, attractive cycad from Florida forests grows 1 to 2 1/2 feet (30-76 cm) and eventually forms side shoots.  Leaves are comprised of shiny, green, narrow, plastic-like leaflets and grow in an upright rosette.  Cut leaves used in floral arrangements.  Grow in sun or part shade.

Zamia furfuracea - Cardboard Palm
Beautiful cycad of big, oval, shiny green leaflets that are 3 to 5 inches (7-13 cm) long.  Leaves are very thick, but pliable like plastic and reach 2 1/2 feet (76 cm) long.  Very short stem or stems barely above ground level.  Slow growing and well adapted for containers.  Native to sandy soils in Yucatan, Mexico.
