Large, single-stemmed ornamental banana having a slick red stem and leaf stems. Dark green leaves grow 8 feet (2.4 meters) long and contrast beautifully with red stem. Stem base grows to 18 inches(45 cm) in diameter and plant attains a height of 18 feet (5.5 meters). Can be grown in containers in part shade, but red coloration develops best in full sun.

Musa sikkimensis -
Rare, ornamental banana, new to cultivation, with purplish new leaves and leaf stems. Many plants have beautiful, shiny green leaves mottled with burgundy red blotches. Multi-stemmed and grows to 14 feet (4.3 meters) high. Produces sweet fruit having seeds. Hardy to cold and resistant to frost where it grows up to 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) in the Indian slopes of the Himalayas.
This banana should be good for Gulf Coast and California.
